Building Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the time committment?
We ask that build volunteers commit a minimum of 1 full day on the build site. Our days run from 8:30am-4:00pm with a coffee break at 10:00 and lunch at 12:00. Our typical builds last approximately 6-8 weeks with construction happening 6 days a week. To register please create a volunteer hub account and choose your build day. Do I need any construction experience?
No, our friendly, skilled staff and trained volunteers will teach you everything you need to know. Typically volunteers are split into teams and given a task, a Crew Leader or Site Supervisor will work with each team to get the job done. You will never be asked to do anything you are uncomfortable with. This is a great way to learn more about construction and building.
Do I need any training before building?
Yes, every build volunteer must attend a mandatory SHE (safety, health, and environment) training session. SHE training is an hour long session going over basic build site safety, the rights of volunteer workers and more. SHE training is valid for three years.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
All build volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. Provincial law states that no one under 16 may be present on a construction site. We do have other opportunities for volunteers under 16. Click here for more information.
