"Thank you! Your dedication to families no matter what the situation is amazing. I am a single mom with a low income who never thought I would be able to afford to buy a home on my own. Thanks to Habitat for Humanity Northumberland I can do just that.
My family is starting a new chapter in our lives with a safe home built from love, dedication and hope. Habitat for Humanity Northumberland will always be in my heart and will always be a part of my family."

"Building Homes. Building Hope."

Two partner families onsite completing their sweat equity hours and building their homes |
"My children and I relocated to Northumberland County 12 years ago. As we were renters, we had to move a number of times, taking us from Bewdley, to Planville, to here in Port Hope. For 5 years I rented a small 2 bedroom apartment for the 4 of us. At $750 a month it was the best place I found that I could afford, where it offered some stability. Unfortunately, we had our share of troubles too and I worried for my children's health and safety on a regular basis.
We were so thrilled and honoured to be offered a partnership. This opportunity paves for us, the road to a different life ahead than what I was expecting. Offering stability and permanence, things I had lost hope I'd ever be able to offer my children, thanks to HFHN we also can look forward to safety, affordability, and pride. We don't have to be humiliated when the heat comes on and possibly with it, the smoke from the drugs used in another apartment, causing mine or my children's friends to become nauseated or even vomit. We don't have to call police or my land lord when this occurs or when other tenants are out of control and my children are afraid. We will all proudly be able to invite friends over because health, safety, smell, space and cleanliness won't be issues we need to be embarrassed about anymore.
Owning a home here in Port Hope is life-altering news for us. I am tremendously thankful. I have been, and now have more opportunities to be, a volunteer. I hope one day we will be considered valuable members of our community. -The Hill Family (Moved in 2010) |

Opening Doors to Affordable Housing |
"The opportunities [we have now] would not have been a thought had we still been stuck in the rental world. With high living costs for space that leaves little room for growth I believe that our lives would have been much different.
I sit in the backyard and watch my children run and play in their own grassy space. I hear them laugh and watch them playing carefree. I had waited a long time for that. I love to hear the boys say they are home. They have a small army of friends that come through our doors and spend the night. Something they would never have been able to do otherwise.
No matter what life holds for us now we all know that we have a safe, secure place that we will forever call home. No more packing and changing our address or choosing what we can keep. When I look at our house, even this many years later, an overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment floods me." -The Henry Family (Moved in 2006)
