Baltimore, ON – On National Housing Day, Tuesday November 22, 2022, Habitat for Humanity Northumberland announced their goal to build a 7-unit townhome development in Baltimore in 2023. Due to the scale of the project, Habitat Northumberland also kicked off a capital campaign, Building Hope for Families, to raise key capital dollars to get this development started.
The Building Hope for Families capital campaign will be chaired by the Pennington/Campbell family, led by Jacqueline Pennington and Greg Campbell. The Pennington/Campbell family will work alongside a campaign cabinet made up of Habitat employees, board members and local community members with the goal of raising $400,000 to kick-start the construction of the 7 units in the Baltimore build. The goal is to raise that amount before breaking ground, hopefully in the spring of 2023. Habitat Northumberland is thrilled to share that an anonymous donor has come forward to provide the project with an incredibly generous foundational contribution of $100,000.
“The Building Hope for Families capital campaign is a first for Habitat Northumberland,” says Meaghan Macdonald, Executive Director for Habitat Northumberland. “Due to the size and scope of our dream for the Baltimore site we are launching this capital campaign to help us get this project started. The money raised by the Building Hope for Families campaign, alongside other sources of funding that Habitat will bring to the project, will turn this project from a dream to a reality. We are so thrilled to have the Pennington/Campbell family on board and we are so overwhelmed to have received the foundational contribution of $100,000 to kickstart our campaign.”
Not only will this development be the largest of its kind for Habitat Northumberland, but it will also be the first time that Habitat Northumberland is planning to pursue a net zero development. By partnering with ZON Engineering, Simple Life Homes, and Community Power Northumberland, Habitat Northumberland is hoping to build the largest Habitat net zero development in Canada.
