ReStore Sales Associate (Summer Youth Positions)

Job Summary:
The position is primarily responsible for supporting the Habitat for Humanity Northumberland ReStore in Cobourg in achieving their sales, inventory, safety, and product success targets. The position also has specific responsibilities including working alongside staff and limited volunteers to oversee the movement of ReStore product, customer service and support, and supporting the onsite volunteer labour for the ReStore. As Habitat for Humanity Northumberland is a community driven organization the student would also have contact and act as a representative of HFHN for local volunteers and clients accessing HFHN’s programs.
The person in this position must have the skill level to handle multiple tasks and assignments, work in a retail environment, lift and move materials, work alongside other staff and some volunteers, while always promoting the values that embrace the mission of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland.
Primary Responsibilities:

Support the ReStore Manager in the acquisition, placement and retailing of ReStore product;

Provide on-the-floor support and service to ReStore customers and donors;

Work directly with the limited volunteers and staff working in the ReStore;

Other, as required.
Qualifications:

Experience and knowledge of retail operations would be an asset;

Strong and proven interpersonal skills;

Self-starter with the ability to work independently;

Current WHMIS and First Aid Certification would be an asset;

Excellent communication skills with proven results;

Ability to multi-task; and
-
Commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland and representing that mission within the community.

Construction Labourer (Summer Youth Positions)

Job Summary:
The position is primarily responsible for supporting the implementation our home repair program in Northumberland County along side our Construction crew. The position will be working onsite alongside the Construction Supervisor, construction staff and volunteers to physically repair and renovate homes and support the management and sourcing of homebuilding supplies and materials. As Habitat for Humanity Northumberland is a community driven organization this position would also have contact and act as a representative of HFHN for local volunteers and clients accessing HFHN’s programs. The person in this position must have the skill level to handle multiple tasks and assignments, work on a construction site, lift and move materials, work alongside other staff and some volunteers, while always promoting the values that embrace the mission of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland.
Primary Responsibilities:

Physically perform supervised home construction and renovation tasks;

Support the Construction Supervisor in the acquisition of build products, materials and tools;

Coordinate and manage the acquisition of certain materials, as determined by the Construction Manager;

Work directly with the limited volunteers on the construction site;

Other, as required; and
-
Work week will require flexibility of schedule as some activities occur in the evening or on weekends.
Qualifications:

Experience and knowledge of home construction would be an asset;

Strong and proven interpersonal skills;

Self-starter with the ability to work independently;

Current WHMIS and First Aid Certification would be an asset;

Excellent communication and networking skills, with proven results;

Ability to think multi-task and meet deadlines;

G2 or higher Driver’s License;

Access to a vehicle; and

Commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland and representing that mission within the community.

We are looking for individuals who would like to do any of the following in our ReStore:

Cashier: processing sales, taking phone calls, greeting customers etc.

Wayfinder: being available on the sales floor to help customers find what they are looking for etc.

Merchandising: Tidying/reorganizing the sales floor to ensure customers can find what they need.
-
Tinkering: testing electrical/mechanical items to see if they work, making small repairs, assembling flat-pack furniture etc.

Processing: sorting through donations, determining if items are fit for sale, researching prices, etc. Heavy lifting is required.

Pickups: riding with our truck driver and helping load large pieces into the truck. Heavy lifting is required.
