JOB SUMMARY:

The position is responsible for supporting the Construction Manager to successfully manage and complete all projects within the Habitat for Humanity Northumberland construction program. This includes providing onsite labour and, at times, supervision of other workers including trades and volunteers. This position will also manage, maintain, and distribute tools and materials on-site. This position will also support the Construction Manager to ensure a safe working environment on all work sites.

 

The person in this position must have the skill level to be able to undertake construction tasks to ensure projects continue to progress on time and within budget. They must also have the ability to assist in supervising volunteers, while always promoting the values that embrace the mission of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall support to the Construction Manager for all active construction projects including preparing, maintaining and distributing tools as well as coordination and distribution of materials;

  • Oversee the maintenance of HFHN’s tool inventory;

  • Assist with supervising and coordinating volunteers and trades for all active projects;

  • Attend build meetings at the beginning of each build day;

  • Oversee the coordination of site support services and help out when needed;

  • Support the Construction Manager in ensuring materials are onsite and available whenever needed;

  • May be called upon to independently travel to other projects to oversee the trades and the work being done, keeping the Construction Manager informed and updated;

  • Other, as required; and

  • Work week will require flexibility of schedule as some activities occur in the evening or on weekends.

Qualifications: 

  • Experience working in residential construction;

  • Ability to complete physical tasks associated with residential construction, including lifting;

  • Proven ability to supervisor other workers (which may include different trades);

  • Excellent communication and networking skills, with proven results;

  • Ability to think strategically and multi-task;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

  • Access to a vehicle;

  • A valid driver’s license and a minimum of 5 years of driving experience;

  • Ability to work flexible hours – some nights and weekends; and

  • Commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland and representing that mission within the community.
