Construction Site Supervisor

Job Summary:

The position is responsible for working with the Construction Manager to ensure the successful and safe completion of all projects within the Habitat for Humanity Northumberland construction program. These projects can include new home construction, home renovation, home repairs and home maintenance. This position will be responsible for training and managing volunteers and onsite supervision of labour such as trades and volunteers. This position will also manage, maintain and distribute tools and materials onsite. This position will also be responsible for delivering onsite safety training when needed as well as implementing the health and safety program in order to ensure a safe working environment on all work sites under this position’s responsibility.

 

The person in this position must have the skill level to be able to oversee construction tasks in order to support the overall management of HFHN projects while always promoting the values that embrace the mission of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Construction Manager to manage and oversee the successful completion of HFHN construction projects including planning and preparation, coordination of trades and skilled labour, coordination and distribution of materials, and management of onsite tools;

  • Act as site supervisor for HFHN projects, supervising labour and materials onsite;

  • Administer build meetings at the beginning and end of each build day;

  • Submit regular progress reports to the Construction Manager;

  • Instruct volunteers on safe tool and materials use;

  • Manage ordering, pickup and delivery of materials and tools from storage and suppliers as set-up by the Construction Manager;

  • Keep job sites clean and help eliminate workplace hazards;

  • Office administrative duties related to building including invoice processing and classification;

  • Oversee the long-term maintenance of HFHN’s tool inventory;

  • Deliver and oversee implementation of HFHN’s safety program onsite (including training);

  • Maintain relationships with appropriate building department staff at the Municipal and County level and appropriate contractors and service distributors;

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the WIPs (Work In Progress), and HFHN’s Warranty Program and Tarion Home Warranty Program, including warranty repairs on completed homes

  • Active pursuit of knowledge and participating in HFHI/HFHC programs, policies and procedures;

  • Other, as required; and

  • Work week will require flexibility of schedule as some activities occur in the evening or on weekends.

 

Qualifications:

  • Practical experience and knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment and techniques pertaining to residential construction as well as the tools and equipment associated with residential construction;

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as manuals and house construction plans;

  • Knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to building construction and the use of power tools;

  • Ability to complete physical tasks associated with residential construction;

  • Proven ability to help manage volunteers and other workers (may include different trades);

  • Excellent communication and networking skills, with proven results;

  • Ability to provide onsite SHE Training when needed;

  • Ability to think strategically, multi-task ;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

  • Access to a vehicle;

  • Ability to work flexible hours – some nights and weekends; and

  • Commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland and representing that mission within the community.
