This holiday season, Habitat for Humanity Northumberland will host its 7th annual Gingerbread House Festival fundraiser in our ReStore. Habitat encourages all Northumberland County schools, community organizations, residents and bakeries to decorate a gingerbread creation in this year’s festival.

Community groups have the opportunity to use a bare, pre-assembled gingerbread house as a starting point for their entry.  These houses may be picked up from Habitat’s Administrative offices (764 Division Street, Cobourg) November 11-15th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To offset the costs of the provided gingerbread (MSRP $9.29 per house), Habitat asks that participants contribute $3.00 for each pre-assembled house. The number of gingerbread houses is limited, so please call to reserve yours!

Professional entrants and school culinary departments are encouraged to build their entries from scratch.

  • rest on a secure base no more than 20” square (remember, decorated gingerbread is HEAVY and you will need to transport it to our Festival location!)

  •  be constructed of only edible ingredients  (all decorations/icing are the entrant’s responsibility. Non-visible interior supports may be non-edible

The 2019 festival will take place Saturday, November 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at our Habitat ReStore. We encourage Northumberland families to visit Habitat’s Gingerbread Festival in Cobourg and enter their names in raffles to win one of dozens of gingerbread creations.

Community entry raffle tickets are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00.  Professional entry raffle tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. All funds go towards Habitat’s  homebuilding program.

At 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23rd, winners will be drawn for the gingerbread houses. Also on that date, the top three decorators from each category (Kids - 12 and Under,  Community and Professional) will be announced with prizes/ribbons awarded to the decorators. Winners will have until Friday, November 29th to pick up their gingerbread from the Habitat ReStore between the hours of 9:30 and 5:00 p.m. Those houses not collected will be donated to other charities in the area.

If your group is interested in participating, please contact Heather Jopling at 289-252-0999 x 28 or email her at no later than  October 31, 2019. Pre-assembled houses are limited in quantity and will be allocated on a first-come-first-reserved basis.
