Brighton, ON – On Thursday February 19th, 2026, Habitat for Humanity Northumberland board members, volunteers, staff, community members, neighbours, and local dignitaries gathered in Brighton, Ontario to celebrate the dedication and key ceremony of a newly renovated home.

This home will soon welcome Anna and her daughter Emilia. Approved into Habitat Northumberland’s homeownership program in 2020, Anna and Emilia patiently waited for the right opportunity a home that would meet their needs and provide a stable foundation for their future. They are the 79th family to partner with Habitat for Humanity Northumberland since 1998.

The story of this home reflects the lasting impact of Habitat’s model of affordable homeownership. Originally relocated to its current site in 2015 through a house move project, the home was renovated and became a safe and affordable place for another Habitat family. Last year, Habitat had the opportunity to repurchase this home, giving it new life and a renewed purpose — to welcome Anna and Emilia and begin this next chapter.

Over the past year, volunteers and partners came together to complete renovations and prepare the home for its next chapter. This project exemplifies Habitat Northumberland’s commitment to stewardship, sustainability, and partnership — ensuring that homes continue to serve families in need for generations.

“In less than ten months, our team has completed nine homes, something we have never accomplished in such a short time,” says Cathy Borowec, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland. “That goal pushed us to think creatively and work collaboratively. Seeing this home begin a new chapter with Anna and Emilia reminds us that Habitat homes are more than buildings they are long-term investments in families and in our

community.”

Since being approved into the program six years ago, Anna has demonstrated resilience, patience, and determination. As a single mother, her commitment to building a brighter future for Emilia has been unwavering. Through partnership, volunteerism, and dedication, she has embodied Habitat’s belief that affordable homeownership is built on hard work and shared responsibility.

This home represents stability, security, and a space where new memories will be made. For Habitat Northumberland, it marks another milestone in strengthening families and building a more inclusive community in Brighton and across Northumberland County.
